Covid-19 & The Code Zone

It's important that you and your children feel (and are) safe in our clubs, so we are working closely with our community centres to put together our policies and guidance.

We have carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment and shared the results with the people who visit and work here.  If you would like a copy of our risk assessment, please let us know.

We have cleaning, handwashing and hygiene procedures in line with guidance

We are following national guidance by the National Youth Agency in consultation with Public Health England and the Health and Safety Executive

We have taken all reasonable steps to maintain current social distancing requirements

Where people cannot socially distance, we have done everything practical to manage transmission risk

THE CURRENT NYA READINESS LEVEL IS

YELLOW

GREEN Readiness Level
General guidance (for all centres)

Clubs will run as normal

  • Please follow government guidelines for self-isolating and testing.  If you test positive for Covid-19 please do not attend the club (let us know though as we have online clubs that the children can come along to instead).
  • If you develop symptoms within 7 days of visiting us, then please contact the NHS Test and Trace system to alert others.

YELLOW Readiness Level
General guidance (for all centres)

Drop-off and pick-up

  • Please follow the individual centre guidelines for dropping off and picking up.
  • Hand sanitiser will be made available at each centre and on tables for children to use.

Social Distancing

  • We recognise that children may be coming from different schools, and so there remains the potential for transmission. However we will mitigate this by maintaining social distancing during the clubs, as well as keeping children back-to-back on tables, with screens between where they are face-to-face.
  • We recognise that social distancing, particularly with the youngest children, will be challenging, so we will recommend that children remain seated as much as possible, but will be able to move around to collect any equipment that may have “run-off”.
  • If your child will have difficulty with social distancing (for example users with SEND or behaviour needs) please raise this with the club leader and we will work with you. Our priority is the safety of all children in the clubs.
  • Leaders will be moving around as usual helping children out. We will maintain a distance, and be using hand sanitizer before and after touching each laptop or other piece of equipment.

Cleaning

  • Part of The Code Zone is obviously our equipment, the laptops, robots, drones.
  • Our enhanced cleaning schedule will be in place every day.
  • All community centres will be responsible for cleaning the equipment they provide (tables, chairs etc).

Face Coverings

  • Our leaders will be in face shields or masks while in the building and running clubs.
  • Children under 11 are not required to wear a face covering.
  • Children 11 and over (typically only those in the Zone418 group) are asked to wear a face covering when entering the building, but may remove it when seated and maintaining social distancing of 2m
  • Where social distancing is not possible, we will ask them to put the mask on. We are mindful and respectful that there are some circumstances where people may not be able to wear a face covering and that the reasons for this may not be visible to others.  This includes (but is not limited to):
    • children under the age of 11 (Public Health England do not recommend face coverings for children under the age of 3 for health and safety reasons)
    • people who cannot put on, wear or remove a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability
    • where putting on, wearing or removing a face covering will cause you severe distress
    • if you are speaking to or providing assistance to someone who relies on lip reading, clear sound or facial expressions to communicate to avoid harm or injury, or the risk of harm or injury, to yourself or others - including if it would negatively impact on your ability to exercise or participate in a strenuous activity

A last few points

  • We are unable to provide any refreshments during the clubs – we would encourage water bottles to be brought though (and taken home!)
  • Please do not send your child with bags, unless absolutely necessary.

AMBER Readiness Level
General guidance (for all centres)

  • Additional measures on top of the YELLOW guidance
  • Drop-off and pick-up

We will ask that all children use hand sanitiser on the way in and on the way out, and do not touch equipment used by other children

Social Distancing

Children will be asked to remain seated

Cleaning

Our enhanced cleaning schedule will be moved to between each session

RED Readiness Level
General guidance (for all centres)

  • Our physical clubs will not be running - we will be running these sessions through our online portal.

Arriving at and leaving the club (general)

Please arrive exactly at the start time of the club (please check with your club for the times)
Between sessions we will be cleaning down the room, so may not be able to greet you before the start time

If you are early, we would request that you wait in your car (or if you did not drive, please wait outside the centre, following any marks on the floor and please maintain social distancing along with other people waiting)

At the start of the club, we will open the door and invite children in turn – on their way in we will request they use the hand sanitizer and then proceed to a table, where we’ll ask them to remain seated.

Pick-up
Children will be ready to go exactly at the end time of the club. They will also be asked to use the hand sanitizer on the way out.

One of our leaders will stand at the door to the centre and release them one at a time once
we’ve seen you.

We are continuing to update this guidance as we work with the community centres we work with.
